Project Updates

Sidewalks are always a topic in Bluff Park. They enhance the walkability of the neighborhood and increase property values. Plus, it’s nice to have a place to walk, run, take a stroll with your pets.

I spoke with city administrator Allan Rice and Chief Operations Officer Jim Wyatt this week for an update on sidewalks in Bluff Park and a few other projects in the area.

The contractor is currently working on Valley Street approaching Bluff Park United Methodist Church, according to project engineer, Doug Peterson, with Gonzalez Engineering. To date, the contractor has been charged 70 working days of the 160 working day contract (that is about 43%). The contractor has 90 working days remaining on the contract to complete the project, including landscaping and cleanup.

The majority of the sidewalk has been completed on Clearview Road, Savoy Street, and Cloudland Drive. There is still work in progress on Savoy Street.

Chapel Road Sidewalk: This project is still on schedule to be on the November 6, 2020 ALDOT letting, for a contractor to be chosen, which should produce a (NTP) Notice To Proceed, for construction to begin Jan / Feb 2021, (ALDOT Dependent).

Landscaping items except for sod are being placed on these streets as well. Work on Valley Street remains to be completed as well as the work on Tyler Road and the small portion of the sidewalk on Clearview Road near Piggly Wiggly.

I also checked the status of the pavilion project. One of our last updates still had the project on hold as bids came in over budget. Wyatt says the city is still looking at possible alternates to make the project feasible.
