Modern and Majestic

Driving through Bluff Park, you may have seen signs announcing new worship times and a new service at one of our neighborhood churches.  img_0224-e1534304625950.jpg“People engage in worship in different ways.  We sensed the importance of creating opportunities for worship that respects these differences,” Senior Pastor Brian Lee says. Beginning this Sunday, August 19 Shades Crest Baptist Church, located on Park Avenue, launches its new modern service – The Rising.

The Rising incorporates more modern elements of worship while still delivering a traditional message at 9:00 am in the Fellowship Hall.  The second service at 11:00 am, The Majestic, is a more conventional style and is held in the Sanctuary.

Preaching and Singing

The Rising service will be relaxed in nature,” Pastor Lee explains, “and will incorporate the use of multi-media and other mediums that will engage worshipers who have a church background as well as those who may be exploring matters of faith.  The music will be theologically sound and accessible to the modern ear.

The Majestic service will be more formal in nature reflecting some of the time-honored methods used in more traditional forms of worship,” Pastor Lee continues.  “Hymns, choir anthems, responsive readings and more will mark this service.”

With the two styles of worship, the sermon content in both services will generally be the same, only differing in the delivery depending on which service a person attends.  Pastor Lee will preach the message at both services and Hiram Rollo, Pastor of Music and Worship, will be leading the worship time in each service.  The Rising service also features a band and praise team while the choir and orchestra will help lead The Majestic service.

Reaching The Community

Along with the two services, Shades Crest Baptist also has Connect Groups for all ages at 10:00 am.  The church hopes that both services will draw people into life-changing encounters with God.  “We welcome anyone who is longing for a more meaningful and transforming relationship with God whether they are already followers of Christ or not. Those who come will find our people to be warm and caring.  They will also experience a kind of worship that is authentic, biblically sound, and relevant to their everyday life,” Pastor Lee says.
